WHAT IS CBD?

Cannabidiol, also shortened to CBD, is a singular cannabinoid found in many plants but in highest concentrations in the Cannabis sativa L. plant. There are over 100 cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, each having a varying effect on the bodies endocannabinoid system. Other cannabinoids found in Cannabis include THC.  Below are a few examples of other cannabinoids and their chemical structure.

IS CBD A PHSYCOACTIVE?

People often ask if CBD is psychoactive.  By medical definition CBD is psychoactive meaning it affects the mind.  That being said, it is non-intoxication.  Some people experience a lightness in mood when taking CBD but it should not make them feel “high” as it does not induce feelings of eupohoria, loss of control or stupor. This is vastly different from ingesting THC.

HEMP VS. MARIJUANA

While both Hemp and Marijuana come from the same species, Cannabis sativa, they come from different sub-species.  An example of this would be the tomato plant: Solanum lycopersicum.  The different subspecies of tomatoes produce everything from grape tomatoes to San Marzano tomatoes to heirloom Cherokee purple tomatoes. The major difference between hemp and marijuana is the concentration of THC vs CBD.  Hemp must have a dry weight per volume of less than 0.3% THC to be classified as hemp. Hemp originally and specifically was cultivated to be grown as a fibrous plant to be used to make rope, fiberboard, paper and concrete among other things. Now, in the CBD world, it has been cultivated to have high concentrations of CBD, with some plants upwards of 18%.
